In reading a blog entry by Trond Lossius on site-specific art this morning, I followed a link to an interview with Brian Eno.
It was really fascinating reading, and the ideas seem quite well crystallized and concisely presented. A couple of highlights included Eno referring to a walkman as “the idea of carrying this little snail-shell of sound around with you,” and a piece piece of music potentially being like a holograph.
A couple of larger discussions include the defining characteristics of pop music being sound/texture rather melody or harmony, how landscape perspectives influence his music, and his encounters and philosphy with minimalism. It’s a good read and not too long. A good intro to Eno if you are looking for one…
