The Teabox decoder objects for various objects have been orphans for a while. Some hosted here, some there, some just floating around from home to home. Now they have a proper home at Google Code:

Currently the source and binaries are host for various versions of Max and Pd. I’m hoping we can host the SuperCollider decoders here too, though I haven’t received permission from the author to do so yet.

It’s nice to have this stuff centralized, and properly accessible to the open-source community.

Composer Scott Wilson has made available some UGens that decode Teabox signals in SuperCollider.

This is very cool! In addition to the decoders we’ve released for Max/MSP, that means others have made decoders for both Pd and SuperCollider.

To find the UGens, turn your web browser here: http://www.scottwilson.ca/site/Software.html

The Theater of Noise blog has posted a Review and Recommendations for Sensor Interfaces.

It is very thorough and well worth checking out. Here are a couple of highlights for the Teabox:
  • “If you need 12-bit resolution and lightning fast responses get The Teabox.”
  • “Built like a tank from the best possible components”

This is certainly what we’ve tried to do, so I’m glad it comes across!

It looks like someone has done some work to get the Teabox sensor data decoded in SuperCollider!

Pd Objects for the Teabox

About a month ago I received a nice note from Olaf Matthes—a very experienced Max and Pd user, and writter of a number of great Max externals. Much to my delight he had ported the Teabox externals for Max over to Pd! I beleive that there have been others who have done this as well, but this is the first that I’ve been sent the results.

I asked for his permission to post them, and he said sure. There is only one caveat, which is that they haven’t been thoroughly tested… Anyway, if you are interested, you can download them here.

Enjoy!

This past week Teaboxes began trickling out the door again. That’s because we received the circuit boards for the second production run, put them through a successful test proceedure, and have been performing final assembly and packaging.

We should be able to finish filling all of our back orders next week. In the meantime, now is the last chance to get the discounted price – prices will go back up to normal on Monday!

There is a used Teabox available on Ebay. If you are looking for a Teabox for a cheap price, or before we start shipping our next production run in a couple of weeks, this may be the ticket

The owner of this Teabox also has some documentation of an installation based at a quarry East of Syracuse, NY.

Version 1.1 of the Teabox externals for Max/MSP are now available over on our Teabox page.

Version 1.1 is Universal Binary so that it will run natively on Intel Macs using Cycling ‘74’s Max/MSP 4.6. It also includes a new object, teabox.count~, which offers an alternative decoding method for Jitter users who would like to have the sensor data packed straight into a Jitter matrix.

Enjoy!

Teabox Decoder now hosted by Jamoma @ Source Forge

To facilitate keeping everything in sync, the Teabox decoder objects (teabox, teabox.bits, teabox.count~) for Max/MSP are now maintained within the Jamoma project.

In the near future a module for working with Teabox data in Jamoma will be added, for which having these objects in the common codebase is neccessary. It also means that you can get the most up-to-date source code even if we haven’t released it yet (though the code is so simple that we haven’t needed to modify it in two years).

New MacBooks ready for the Teabox

Apple today released the new line of MacBooks, the successor to the iBook. Good news is to be found here too: like the MacBook Pro, the MacBook has a built-in S/PDIF input.

That means all you need is a plug adapter and the Teabox should plug right into the new MacBook – no external audio interface! This is definitely the easiest route to a portable rig with high-res, high-speed sensors I’ve seen. Sweet!
